The Legends Behind the Builds

🔨 Geoff – From Toolbelt to Office Chair (and Still Building Legends)

Geoff is the driving force behind AgBuild and one of the original masterminds who launched the business back in 2011. After finishing school, he got stuck into building here in New Zealand, completing his apprenticeship before heading overseas to sharpen his skills on sites across the UK and USA. Today, he leads AgBuild alongside Carl — keeping things practical, hands-on, and always focused on building better.

These days, Geoff’s swapped the toolbelt for an office chair (a slightly squeaky one, if we’re honest), and now he’s the guy juggling all the quoting, sales, and designs — AKA the stuff that keeps the whole machine running. He’s the one doing the behind-the-scenes head-scratching to make sure every build starts off right.

He’s got a sharp eye for detail, a brain wired for problem-solving, and a not-so-secret love for a tidy spreadsheet. Whether it’s nailing a complex custom design or chasing down supplier quotes, Geoff’s the engine room of AgBuild.

Work during the week, family adventures on the weekend—Geoff’s all about balance. His boys occasionally rope him into hunting missions — apparently there’s a monster stag out there with a nameplate ready for the wall. He also throws a few punches at boxing each week... for fitness, not because someone asked for just one more change to the plans.

"Every job we do is a reflection of who we are. It’s not just about putting up walls and a roof—it’s about showing up on time, doing it properly, and leaving our customers feeling proud of what we’ve built for them."

He might spend more time wrangling emails than nails these days but make no mistake — Geoff’s still building. Just now it’s with plans, pricing, and the occasional strong coffee.

🛠 Carl – The Human Duct Tape of AgBuild

Carl’s our Construction Manager, co-owner of AgBuild, and the guy who keeps things running smoother than a freshly poured slab. He’s been with us since 2019 and now runs the show alongside Geoff. With years on the tools, Carl knows a solid build when he sees one — and he’s not afraid to get his hands dirty when needed.

Before AgBuild, Carl spent years in the dairy industry and later worked with Mighty Domain, sharpening his hands-on skills and getting a solid grip on what it takes to manage people, projects, and pressure. That background laid the foundation for his practical approach to construction — no shortcuts, no fluff, just hard graft and smart planning.

These days, you’ll mostly find him behind the scenes — teeing up gear, keeping jobs on track, and jumping in wherever he’s needed. He’s been in the game long enough to know when to step in, when to step back, and how to keep things moving without overcomplicating it.

While Geoff’s usually the one taking the sales calls, Carl’s the one making sure what’s promised gets delivered — and built right. He’s not into big talk or flash finishes, just quality work, decent people, and doing the job properly from start to finish.

When he’s not wrangling builds, Carl’s wrangling the outdoors — hunting, diving, or spending time with his family. He’s still working on combining all three into one weekend without injury, tears, or forgetting the chilly bin.

“I’ve always believed you’ve got to build it like it’s your own. That’s how you earn trust.”

Reliable, hard-working, and always willing to muck in — Carl’s the steady hand every solid crew needs.

🏉Waka – The Footy Brain with Builder’s Hands

Justin ‘Waka’ Somerville is one of those blokes every crew needs — steady on the tools, sharp with the details, and always good for a laugh. He’s a fully qualified builder who’s been around long enough to spot a mistake before it happens — and fix it without a fuss.

Waka’s all about the good stuff — working outdoors, building alongside a decent crew, and watching something take shape from a bare site to a finished job. He’s not big on making a song and dance, but his work speaks for itself. Quietly reliable, with just enough cheek to keep things light.

When he’s off the clock, Waka’s into his rugby — watching, learning, and giving coaching a nudge (mainly so he can yell from the sideline with a bit more credibility). He’s big on time with mates and family, which is where he resets before getting back into it for another week on the tools.

“I like being outside, building things properly, and having a few laughs while we do it.”

Skilled, straight-up, and never in a rush to be the centre of attention — Waka brings good energy and solid craft to every job.

🦌 Tyler – Apprentice by Day, Fishing or Hunting Weapon by Weekend

Tyler joined AgBuild in 2022 at the bright age of 17, kicking off his building apprenticeship with a solid mix of energy, eagerness, and surprisingly loud vocals. Since day one, he’s been a hard-working young bloke who tackles everything thrown his way — no complaints, just tools up and get stuck in.

He’s quickly become a valued part of the crew — equal parts hard worker and confident vocalist. Whether the singing's good is up for debate, but you’ve got to respect the commitment (and the volume).

When he’s not on the tools, Tyler’s out chasing deer or fish — whatever’s in season. He’s hunting-mad, fishing keen, and proudly documents the lot on his YouTube channel (well, the good footage anyway — the misses don’t always make the cut). Early starts, muddy boots, and the occasional “that’ll do” catch are all part of the show. He reckons he’s out there living the dream — and honestly, he might be.

“Joined AgBuild for the skills, stayed for smoko. Love the challenge of building, and the team is solid, even if half of them think they're funnier than they are. Keen to keep learning”

Still early in his building career but already making his mark, Tyler’s one to watch — just don’t forget your earplugs if there’s music on site.

🏏 Cullen – Apprentice with a Straight Drive and a Solid Work Ethic

Cullen joined the AgBuild crew in 2023 at the age of 17, kicking off his building apprenticeship with enthusiasm, focus, and a can-do attitude. From day one, he’s shown he’s not just here to learn the ropes — he’s here to pull his weight, get the job done right, and be a solid team player.

On site, Cullen’s dependable, respectful, and always up for the next challenge. Whether it’s on the tools, helping out wherever needed, or quietly soaking up skills from the crew around him, he’s earning his place and building a strong foundation (pun fully intended).

When Cullen’s not swinging a hammer, he’s swinging a bat — and he reckons he’s pretty sharp out on the cricket field (modesty pending). Golf’s a close second, although the balls don’t always agree. He’s big on family and always keen for quality time with his old man and brother, doing whatever blokes do best — probably something outdoorsy with a bit of healthy competition.

“I’m loving the challenge of building and being part of a team that backs each other. Keen to keep learning and getting better every day.”

With his steady attitude and genuine love for the trade, Cullen’s already proving he’s a great fit for the AgBuild crew — and we’re excited to see where his journey takes him.

👑Kimmy – Office Ops Queen

Meet Kimmy — our admin and accounts superstar, spreadsheet whisperer, and the steady hand that keeps AgBuild ticking behind the scenes. From reconciling invoices to wrangling the calendar, chasing paperwork, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks, Kimmy is across it all — usually before anyone else even realises it needs doing.

As a hardworking mum of two energetic kids, Kimmy somehow juggles numbers, emails, sports practices, school runs, and community events with the precision of a Swiss watch and the energy of a double-shot flat white.

“It brings me great joy to assist Geoff & Carl in ensuring everything we do not only meets but exceeds our clients' expectations, from the start of the process right through to the final outcome.”

She’s the friendly voice on the phone, the one who keeps the back end of the business humming, and the unsung hero making sure things run smoothly from quote to completion.

We’re not sure how we’d function without her — but we’re glad we don’t have to find out.

👋 Meet the Marketing Department (aka Geoff’s wife)

Brylie - She’s the one behind the posts, the website tweaks, the awesome blogs, and the occasional: “Try again—but this time, without the wheelbarrow in the shot.”

When she’s not behind the screen, she’s juggling lunchboxes, racing to sports drop-offs, keeping the dog exercised, and running the household—while Geoff lives his best life selling sheds.

Her official title? Director of Making Us Look Good Online.

She keeps the brand sharp and keeps Kimmy company in the office, usually talking about kid chaos and mum life. And yes, she wrote this post herself. Humble as ever. 😎
